Welcome to our home…

WE ARE NET-ZERO! We produce more energy than we use!

Our home features a 10Kw Bergey wind turbine on a 120′ guided lattice tower. The system is
grid-tied. Blades are 11 feet long for a diameter of 23′. Generates an average of 8000 Kwh/year.
In addition to the wind turbine we have a 4.2Kw Sun Power PV system and a 1.8Kw Sun Power
DC PV system so we take advantage of both wind and sun. Generates approx. 7000 Kwh/year.
This year we installed a Waterfurnace 7 geothermal system to handle all of our heating and
cooling needs. In winter we get heat from the ground and in summer we get the cooling from the
ground.
We have a GE GeoSpring hybrid (electric heat pump) hot water heater that extracts heat from the
cellar so that it does not have to use the electric elements unless there is high demand. Uses less
than 1800Kwh/year
We have a Mitsubishi high efficiency(23 SEER) air source heat pump that can heat/cool the
majority of the house(now used only for backup).
On site will be a Chevy Volt (driven 32,000 miles using ~120 gallons of gas – 266 mpg!). Also
a Ford Fusion (getting approx.. 43 mpg).
Site also has fluorescents throughout, rain barrels, and examples of foamboard basement
insulation.
We have stopped using propane for heat and hot water and greatly reduced our gasoline
consumption.
