Testimonials And what our customers are saying about their solar experience!!
For over a decade, the staff at Renewable Rochester has provided quality, sustainable energy systems to our customers. We strongly believe in education, sustainability and a renewable energy future! Here are just a few of what our customers are saying about their renewable energy experience.

Implementing the solar plan with Renewable Rochester was easy. The paperwork and follow-up needed for the tax credits and RGE approvals was seamless. We did not have to get bogged down in the details. Our panels are running the Broccolo retail Garden Center. We are proud to show them off. Thank you to Shawn Lessord and crew.

Shawn explained all aspects of the PV installation from begining to end and helped us feel very comfortable with the decision to install. He turned novices into well informed users of a PV system. Doug, the lead installer, was very personable and responsive to our questions and did a very neat and professional installation. We`ve recieved several compliments from our neighbors on how nice the system looks both inside and out. Pearl was also very freindly and extremely helpful with our questions and paved the way for the regulatory body approvals. Job well done guys, thank you again!
We plan on adding to the system as a result of our experience

Having our solar installation done by Renewable Rochester was the best decision we could have made. We said, “We want solar”, and they took care of everything else, no fuss, no headaches. And now that it’s in, we couldn’t be more pleased. Thanks Renewable Rochester.

I don’t often write reviews for the products I buy, but after recently purchasing a SunPower solar system from
Renewable Rochester, I felt compelled. I’ll start with a little background. My husband and I own a small dairy
farm and use a fair amount of power in the barn, shop and house, so our utility bill can often run between $250-
$300/mo with NYSEG. So, as an enthusiastic science teacher, we tried wind power a few years ago to help
supplement our usage. It was a complete disaster! We got almost no support from the Toronto based company
(as we had to install the system ourselves) and 2 years later they disappeared off the map with our system no
longer working. Well, three years later, I saw a post from a friend on Facebook about the 22 kwh of power his
new solar system was producing in the dead of winter in Rochester, NY. I asked him for more details and he
referred me to Renewable Rochester and Shawn Lessord!
My initial consult with Shawn began in May, when he came out to evaluate our solar needs and potential power.
He was professional, knowledgeable and very personable. He brought samples of SunPower’s panels and
shared information on the 40% NYSERDA rebate and government tax incentives. But the ultimate deal maker
was the offer to remove our defective wind system, including the 53’ tower, and sell the parts for us. Afterwards
we both felt confident enough to give Shawn $1000 down and start a 5.23 kwh project.
Although we had to wait 4 weeks for grant approval, and a few extra weeks for the panels to arrive, we got started
in beginning of July. The installer came out on a Monday morning and quickly got started. He was very
experienced in his work and we completely enjoyed having him at our farm. In just 4 days all the remnants of the
wind system were removed and sold, and the new solar system was installed and producing power! The process
was so easy for us. Shawn took care of ALL the paper work. He made all the necessary contacts with the utility
company, the inspectors and code enforcer. He also installed all the software for monitoring the system on my
computer, which is an awesome feature SunPower includes in their system. This system is amazing! It can
generate power even low levels of sunlight. In just 5 days it has collected 137 kwh of power, and these were
mostly cloudy days. In a couple weeks we’ll produce more power than we got from the 5kw turbine over the entire
18 months it was in operation.
The wind system was also sort of an eye sore (especially when it wasnt working) but this solar system is beautiful
and almost invisible. Lots of people used to stop in when we put our turbine up and asked us about wind power.
However, with the solar no one has even noticed the panels unless we point them out. This has both a positive
and negative. We like that is blends in with our farm, but SunPower offers $25 to every friend that has a solar
evaluation done and $200 to every friend referred that has a system installed. So we’d like our neighbors to
notice it more!
SunPower also has great software and an iPad App with its monitoring system. I can monitor my current energy
production from anywhere there is internet access. I get hour by hour data on how much energy I have produced,
what that means in emission reduction, or even what it would equal in tree planting. There’s all kinds of
interesting information provided by this software. I could even download it to a spreadsheet for my students to
Best of all, this system is warrantied for many years to come. The panels have a 25 year warranty and the
inverter has 10 years. So we’ll be cranking out clean power for many years to come. Hopefully, over these next
few years we can upgrade our vehicle to electric without any extra cost for utilities. And should we retire from the
farming business, we should have more than enough power for heating and cooling our home.
In my last remarks, I think this may be one of the best investments we have made. Although there was a
substantial cost up front, with the rebate from NYSERDA and government tax credits, we will only have 33% of
the cost to recover. Meaning, with a $26,000 system, after incentives the final cost was $8,500. Which will can be
recovered in utility savings in just over 4 years with average production.
Calling Renewable Rochester was a good choice for us. I know it would be for anyone who wants reduce their
utility bills and make progress in reducing dependence on fossil fuels. Arkport New York
From our first contact with Shawn, the process couldn’t have been easier.
He handled everything for us, including all applications, permits, and
inspections. He also figured out how to fit the maximum number of panels on
our roof, and recommended higher efficiency panels, giving us almost double
the production capacity we were expecting. Our installer, Doug, did a neat
and professional job. Both Shawn and Doug were concerned about the
aesthetics of the panels, wiring, and equipment, both inside and out, and
were a pleasure to work with every step of the way.

I am a licensed architect, LEED Accredited Professional and have been involved with alternative energy design for over 30 years. When the time came to consider a solar application for our house I did a lot of research and asked a lot of questions of several venders. Shawn not only had the answers, he was also incredibly patient as I worked through different options. Once we made the commitment the process of working with NYSERDA as well as obtaining a building permit went as smoothly as Shawn predicted. Doug did a fantastic job with the installation. We’re sure we made the right choice – they even brought us sunshine in November.

This group was the most professional group I have ever seen. The salesman came out and explained every detail. After doing my own research I found out the manufacturer is a USA company. The installers came in and went to work. After they left my house cleaner than when they came. We agreed they would start at 8 AM and work until 5 PM and they were right on the money with it. They finished 5 days and answered every question I had. It was a completely enjoyable experience and I would certainly recommend them to all my family and friends.
Shawn handled every little detail. He filled out every form. Explained each one to me as I signed them and left me copies of each one for my records. His team did it all, I signed my name maybe 6 times and it was done. I wish I could do it again.
