How does solar work?
How does solar electric work? Simply put, solar PV panels convert sunlight into DC electricity. The DC electricity is then converted into AC electricity using an inverter. The AC electric is then distributed throughout your home or business. During times of low energy demand and lots of sun, these systems sell electric power back to the utility grid.
Pictured above is a typical solar power system and the components you will find. When the sun hits the modules, they produce energy. Turning light into DC is the photovoltaic process.
Several solar cells are put together to make a solar panel or module. When you put many solar panels together, it’s a solar array which can generate enough energy to provide power for a home or community.
The process of installing a solar electric system
The first step in our process is to fill out a solar site survey form and we will gladly determine if you are a good candidate for a solar electric system. If you are interested in getting into the solar industry, or getting some training, you can take some online courses at Solar Energy International which offer both online and hands-on courses.
It is important for you to know that installing a solar electric system in New York State takes time and patience. This process can take several months as your system is reviewed by New York State, Inspectors, your local Municipality, and your Utility. Please allow three to four months for your solar system to be fully completed from start to finish. Most of this is out of our hands due to the many agencies that are involved.
